If you have a bad habit of skipping your routine dental exam at the dental office of Dr. John Verville in Fleming Island, Florida, a cavity on one of your teeth might go undetected. Without professional dental care, the bacterial presence will inevitably continue to spread. Further oral hygiene inconsistencies can allow the tooth decay to invade the root and potentially harm the socket of the tooth.

This could lead to pain, a severe fracture, or even a dangerous infection in the gums. To prevent these complications from worsening, Dr. John Verville might suggest completely extracting the tooth from the socket and suturing your gums.

When your gums have completely healed and any concerns about infection have passed Dr. John Verville can help you understand your dental restoration options. If you’re uncomfortable with the invasive nature of the oral surgery required for a dental implant, he might recommend a bridge restoration.

This is basically a single piece of dental work that encompasses three teeth. A solid-state artificial tooth is completed fused to a pair of crowns. It is mounted directly onto abutments formed from the two neighboring teeth.

During the first appointment, Dr. John Verville will examine the two neighboring teeth to make sure they are completely healthy. Then he will then use a drill to remove the tooth enamel from each tooth. This creates a pair of abutments that will later serve to anchor your bridge.

Dr. John Verville will then prepare a detailed impression is cast of the abutment and any other pertinent teeth in the area. This will later be sent to a dental lab where your permanent bridge is made. Then temporary crowns are secured over each of the abutments to protect them.

You will need to come back in for a second appointment when the dental lab has completed your permanent bridge. The temporary crowns will be removed and Dr. John Verville will cement the bridge onto the abutments with a strong dental adhesive.
